Wake up!
The
Awaken Arts Festival is a one day
festival led by the community, for the community. It will engage
musicians/songwriters, storytellers, dancers, spoken word, spin and
sound artists, community artwork facilitators, film-makers, media
artists, visual, textile, performance, social intervention, and
interdisciplinary artists as well as every passer-by on the
street.
Our goal is to showcase artists working with new forms and ideas of art, re-thinking traditional forms in non-traditional ways, expanding the ways we imagine and envision creativity in our communities. We strive to create an open, inclusive and participatory space -- especially involving young people or those who may face barriers to participation in other arts festivals and venues, those who may not have opportunities to be paid for their creative practice.
The Awaken Arts Festival is meant to foster, expand and disrupt our understandings of "what is art" and "who are artists" in our communities. Wake up!
June 25, 2011 from 3PM-8PM the Awaken Arts Festival will be held at the Art Gallery of Algoma and Clergue Park waterfront area, downtown Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
Artist fees will be paid to participating artists and artist collectives.
All creative people are encouraged to apply and participate, regardless of geographic area.
We strongly encourage participation from artists across Northern Ontario.
